The first race was held on May 26th - 27th - 1923. conceived at time when Grand Prix's were occuring throughout Europe with an obvious heavy reliance on speed, this new race was designed to test a cars reliability as well as it's speed over a gruelling and unprecedented 24 hour endurance race. There were 33 entrants and 30 cars that finished the race, the winners in a predominantly French affair were André Lagache and Réne Leonard driving a Chenard & Walcker 3 litre car. (below)
